OT What Web publishing tools?

Discussion in 'UK Motorcycles' started by steve auvache, Apr 5, 2005.

  1. I ain't got none and I have a few seconds of out-take video that gives
you lot a chance to take the piss at some other cunts expense.

I can drop it out of Premier in virtually any format I want and there
the issues start. I have neither a clue how, nor the tools, to put it
    up on my web site.

I don't want much from it, business grade rather than industrial would
suit me and I don't mind paying. Well I do but it is tax deductible so
it doesn't hurt quite as much.

Piece of piss, make the files MPEGs, then use an FTP client to upload
    them..

You could write a basic webpage using something as simple as Mozilla
(free) and add links to the files in an...

    <a href="http://<website>/<path to file>/<filename>">**DESCRIPTION OF
    FILE.**</a>

    ....stylie.

You don't even need any flashy graphics.

Indeed. Even I can do that.

I have done hand coded html before but I need a tool now that I can
practise with by playing and use to good effect when I need it in the
    future for something proper.

So what is it you want to do? The title of your post and the body
    description are two different things.

Web publishing I know bugger all about, posting a link to a file /
folder I've done for other people to download is something I've done
    loads of times.

Like Ginge said, the latter is a piece of piss.

Are they? See how much I know about it then.

I have never ever ever done webby stuff before and I have to in the not
too distant future[1] and now seems like a good bit of time to put in
some practice and learn a few wrinkles so I am activating my force9 web
    pages and having a play.

True, if there is a man among us who should know about the latter it is
    Ginge.

Let us know what it is then. I don't know about webby stuff either.

So, back to what Ginge suggested, use mozilla. Select Composer and it will
do simple stuff for you without hand crafting the HTML.

Actually you've sort of got me on a specialist subject (not piss) here,
but without a scope I can't really offer much advice. Plus, I'm really
more of a backend systems and infrastructure kind of guy.

Anywho, if you want to see what a good HTM editing tool can do, have a
    play with this Steve.

Have a look at some of these sites too, for ideas of layouts and
    suchlike.
    http://glish.com/css/
    http://cssvault.com/

Bear in mind you actually need little more than notepad, or vi, or
whatever to put together a webpage, but the tools just make it easier...
Unless you're writing server side code, which you won't be on your
    plusnet webspace.

And obviously, and re-post the question when you've more of an idea.
    :)

Yeah I have been looking at it. If I can find a way to fight me way out
of all the wizards and templates it might be useful.
