Setup extension reel in boot of car in preperation to do some repair
work to corroded / damaged stereo connector.

Extension reel has tubular metal frame which forms the handle as well.

So extension reel metal handle is handy place to keep soldering iron
    when not in use. Sorted.

Matt comments to me "novel use of the handle"
me : "Yeah, but it gets bloody hot"

    Finish repair.
    Unplug soldering iron.

(you know the rest don't you?)

    Put iron somewhere safe.
2 seconds later pick up extension reel.

    me : "OOOWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWYABASTARDTHATSFUCKINHOTOWOWOWOWOWOWOWW"
    matt : "yup."

Large blisters on first 3 fingers.

    Bugger.

23 years ago in Brixton, South London. I'm a sprog Fireman on a crew
called to a Rolls Royce (just passing through) with smoke issuing from
    the rear wheels.

Turned out that the owner had left the handbrake on and driven for
several miles. Those Roller wheel nuts were solid brass, and held the
heat well, they were nearly glowing when we first removed them. And
left them in a hubcap off to one side. After inspecting / cooling /
pretending we knew what we were doing with the car Bob went to put the
wheel back on. And grabbed the nuts. And started screwing one on by
hand before the smelll of burnt flesh and a shout very similar to
yours rent the air! He had a hexagonal scar in the palm of one hand
    afterwards.

    So, you're not alone...
