Um dunno. Who has to insure it, and have you got any quotes?
Why that sort of car in particular?

I test drove one[1] when they had just came out, and thought that it was
pretty good, even though ugly as sin. Clarkson labelled them a 'Nissan
    on stilts' IIRC.

I think Lozzo's got one too?

[1] also offroad, on a company car event thing

I think you'd find it jolly useful if he had a transit van

  6. I've done that already, I was surprised at the price, £1000 TPF&T,
while that is a *lot* of money, the usual Corsa/Fiesta/Punto types
thing all come out at about £900, and I think this would be a bit of a
    laugh too !

  9. It seems to be a grand for any new driver, almost irrespective of
    vehicle.

It's the third-party risk they present that governs the premium rather
than the actual value of the vehicle they're driving.

    I wish.

My eldest is taking lessons, and obviously I'm not going to insure him
    for the RX-8.

I looked into buying him something like a 10 year old Punto - quote
    was >£3K.

It got me wondering as to how all the local youth have managed to
insure their cars, and my conclusion was that they haven't.

  12. Blimey. ISTR that for our eldest (then 19) it was £1000 for The Doctor's
Micra and only £1200 for the then Primera.

That said, the premium did rise after the test pass. But £3k is a bit
    ott.

I've got ours (17) on a SO J-reg 1.9 Clio diesel for 330 quid. When she
passes her test it goes up to about 600.

    The highest quote was 4,800.

    That'll be because that's exactly what they are - it's a
    badge-engineered Nissan Terrano II.
