Exactly. As for the odd lemon, what makes didn't have them in those
    days?

I had a 1980 MKI, the small rear light job. 1600 GTi it was, lovely
little motor. Rusted like **** - the lower tailgate lip on all of
them of that era lasted a couple of years tops. I put a set of outer
sills on it years ago, then inner sills.

I had to have the front n/s corner rebuilt because of rust, the the
back axle nigh-on dropped out the year later. Scrapped it eventually
as the front o/s corner was rotten, but the rot had spread up inside
the A pillar to the scuttle. Shame, I had that car (while others came
and went) for 15 years. I'd have another like a shot, if it wasn't
    shot, so to speak.

I quite liked working on Avengers. The gearbox was ally and a ****
sight lighter and more manageable than the Ford equivalent - offset of
course (as it had to be, I s'pose) by the Rootes insistence on using
long bolts and nuts to secure bellhousing to engine, rather than
bolts, which made the job rather more fiddly than it needed to be.

bored us all completely to death with wittery prose along the lines
    of:

Heh, one of the lads at work, has a new Ford C-max. There's a bug in
the circuitry somewhere, which causes the motor to not exceed 2000rpm.
It's also an intermittent problem. When he went to get it sorted out,
four other Ford C-max owners where there at the same time, with the
    same problem. :)

I've not had any engine problems with the Focus, but the after sales
service is absolutely shite. When they repaired the door after some
scrote nicked the radio, it took them three weeks to do the job. Even
then, the door isn't properly aligned, as I think the hinges are
fscked. When they did finish, they left traces of mastic all over the
steering wheel and dashboard, which I can't remove completely.

As someone who works in the industry, I have to say that this sort of
service is outrageous... I hope you complained in strong terms...

Y'know, I did try. But they gave me the impression that they didn't
give a shit. The salesman told me he'd sort something out, etc, etc,
but never got back in touch. So I thought fairy nuff. I'll show my
"displeasure" by taking my business elsewhere when I change the cage
    next year.
