The new Carl Hiaasen - Skinny Dip - is just out in paperback. For those who know him, he's back on top form after, IMV, a piss-poor contract-filler in Sick Puppy. Sexy heroine, odious anti-hero and a number of reassuringly extreme grotesques. Synopsis: woman gets slung off cruise-ship by pondslime husband, survives to extract slow, sadistic, imaginative and funny revenge. It's not a laugh-out-loud farce like Native Tongue, but it's very good. For those who don't know him, try him. Anything except Sick Puppy, and also avoid the three collaborations he did early on. They were reissued to cash in on his solo novels, but are feeble by comparison.
