  1. The new Carl Hiaasen - Skinny Dip - is just out in paperback. For those who
know him, he's back on top form after, IMV, a piss-poor contract-filler in
Sick Puppy. Sexy heroine, odious anti-hero and a number of reassuringly
extreme grotesques. Synopsis: woman gets slung off cruise-ship by pondslime
husband, survives to extract slow, sadistic, imaginative and funny revenge.
It's not a laugh-out-loud farce like Native Tongue, but it's very good.

For those who don't know him, try him. Anything except Sick Puppy, and also
avoid the three collaborations he did early on. They were reissued to cash
in on his solo novels, but are feeble by comparison.

  2. Ooops and all that. The recent not-so-good book was Basket Case, not Sick
Puppy. I knew it had a 'sickness' in the title.

FWIW, this book was also recommended in the list of "50 best books to
read on holiday" in the Independent on Saturday.

don't care. All his books are the same, and I fully intend not to read
    another fucking one of them.

The only really funny ones are Native Tongue and Skin Deep (the bit
with Chemo with the machine-gun on the jet-ski is very very funny).
