Why do they still sell drip paint?

I'm decorating the place, so last week I bought a can of Crown gloss white.
It's runny. I had to be very careful with my brush loading (and floor
covering) - and still dripped all over the place.

Today I went back and sought out the Crown non-drip stuff. The builders'
merchant has about 10m of shelf space with drip on it but only 6 cans of
non-drip. The non-drip works a treat, jelly like I can transport loads of it
to my door frames with no drips - ever.

    It's costs the same!

I asked the builder (1) I've got working on my chimney. His reply; "no idea,
    I always use the non-drip".

    1. He has an R1 and a GSX1400 - just to get a bit in about bikes.

Because you *should* get a better finish. Probably goes further as well
    / lasts longer as well.

If you use it "properly"[1] it will not only give a better finish, but
will adhere better and last longer.

[1] Don't overload the brush, apply in a vertical upward stroke, work
across from left to right, then _always_ finish with a gentle upstroke
to ensure that any excess paint is removed.

Because, in competent hands, a layer of paint can be laid down and will
settle down to a smooth finish more quickly, ie before it dries.

It's like asking why they make MotoGP bikes so powerful that they can flip
    under power.

Non drip is a diy product designed for numpties, whereas liquid alkyd
    type gloss paint is not.
