OT Talk to me of Ebook readers

Discussion in 'UK Motorcycles' started by Lady Nina, Oct 28, 2010.

  1. I have a Sony PRS300 and an iPad.

The Sony's good for bike trips and holidays where I don't want to have
work email with me. In comparison with the iPad the screen is a lot
more readable. There are more books available.

The iPad works well for work email so I've got it with me and there are
several free books available in the store.

If I were to buy just one I think I'd go for the Sony. Don't know
anything about the kindle. The biggest failing of the Sony is it's a
faff to load books onto it and it won't easily charge from my laptop (so
I've also got to lug a charger for it).

However when at home I read books rather than ebooks. An ereader is
convenient but that's it, it is a compromise.

    No, Mr B's,

    http://www.mrbsemporium.com/

we go in Topping if they've got an interesting reader (we've seen Tom
Paulin, Don Paterson and Carol Ann Duffy there) but for 'everybody
knows your name' long chats about books, recommendations and general
loyalty it is Mr B's all the way. Particularly Ed, we like a Ed a lot,
TBC geeks about Russian stuff and engineering and I get quirky novels
that I like (Carter beats the devil e.g.)

This is the bookshop that sent 'The English Patient' out when I was
stuck in Germany with the broken leg.

  4. Oh, right, that one.

Used to be a fantastic record shop in the 70s (Cruising).

Can't be a bad bookshop if they're having a 'handful of dust' evening.
    Wonderful book.
They get quite a few interesting ones, don't they. Armistead Maupin's
    there in November.

This thread has come at an appropriate time; I'm thinking of getting
    one.
I keep coming to the conclusion that a hundred quid would get me a *lot*
of real books though. Lending them and borrowing 'real books' seems to
be a nice thing to do as well. You can sort of judge how much you like
people by which books you will let them borrow :)

Anyway; I decided to look up the dearest book you could buy for kindle
    and found:
    http://tinyurl.com/dearestbooks

Check out the first item in
'What Do Customers Ultimately Buy After Viewing This Item?' .

only read that recently - pretty damn entertaining, though the ending
    is over-long.

Interesting book that I got as part of an offer from Smith's. Really
    quite enjoyable.
