I'm putting together a box of stuff to send to the boy child.

    1. Given it is going to contain heavy stuff like booze, pasta and rice
what's the cheapest method of posting it? Unless there's an UR route
from Derby to Brighton over the next couple of weeks?

    2. What would you have wanted in a care package? A friend has already
suggested I send him her 18 year old sister...

**** that, she'd be wasted on a student. Send her here instead. Hell,
I'll even come & collect her.

Are you proposing to do this on a regular basis?

If so, set up a standing order to send the parasite some cash each month.
At least that way he will learn to budget, even if it means he rationalises
it to, "I have to wait until Thursday before I can get pissed."

Sending the goods is a minor issue. Receiving it in student digs is the big
problem. Halls are not geared up to receive incoming parcels and someone
else might sign for it, and consume it, if the courier delivers directly to
    the flat.

Pasta is heavy? What are you cooking it in?

    <has another thought>

If it's food & booze, wouldn't it be a lot easier & cheaper to do an
online order with his nearest Asda/Tesco etc for home delivery?

As everybody else has said, shimoleons are always acceptable. Most of my
care packages to the offspring show up as a slightly less negative balance
    in her bank account.

The eighteen-year-old sister would work, too, as a convertible asset along
the lines of guns and gold. If you've got an eighteen-year-old sister, you
can always get money. If you've got money, you can always get
eighteen-year-old sisters. All it takes is a reasonably commercial approach
and a fairly low moral profile.

    No, it's a one off.
The ex husband was meant to be doing that but as usual he's being a
    wanker.
I have to say that he can already budget and cook - I didn't send him
out into the world completely unprepared.
He's in a shared house now it is his second year.

pest method of posting it? Unless there's an UR route
I'm putting together a box of stuff to send to the boy child.

1 Pack it all in rucksack. Give rucksack to 18 year old girl with the
bus fare wrapped in a map of Brighton showing where boy child is.

2 Most supermarkets now do a card system in university towns where you
can credit money to the card and then boy child can go to said
supermarket and spend it. I may be wrong but I think one of them even
allows you to barr the card from paying for certain items like booze.
Not required in this case as you were sending booze.

The Apprentice started at Coventry Uni last week, seems to be eating
drinking and living the high life of a well practiced student already.

I'm driving London - Hastings in a couple of weeks, which probably isn't
    much help.

You're really not embracing this dole blodger role you're taking on, are
you ? From now own boy child is supposed to stock up *your* cupboard
with Aldis' finest baked beans from the potential earning capacity he's
    borrowing against.

If you don't want him buying you baked beans when he's visiting ask for
a bottle of vodka and some fags instead. I'm sure he'll be able to
stretch his overdraft for his dear old mum.
