I went on an all inclusive once. We thought we were drinking enormous
quantities of beer, but weren't getting even tipsy. The thing is, nobody
abroad serves pints, so you need about 8 drinks to get the equivalent of 2
    or 3 pints...

  4. Now I know the Daily Mail and Daily Express have a lower nipple count
than a lot of other papers but this article about another
Government-backed survey did make me laugh.

[Gets towards the end of my morning read of about 20 UK & European news
papers starts on the others with Aljazeera]

In France, you may ask for:

    - Galopin= 0.125l
    - Bock= 0.15l
    - Demi= 0.25l
    - Distingué or Véritable= 0.50l
    - Parfait or Formidable= 1l

Sérieux can be used for 0.5, 1 or 2l, Baron for 0.5 or 1l.

Why anyone bothers with either of these I'll never know.
Which is the almost universal default if you just ask for une bière,
    or une pression (meaning draught).
Only ever hear the last one of these, and that very rarely. I've known
quite a few bars that don't even have .5l glasses, let alone litre
    ones.
Usually .5l though, IME at least.

And you missed 'Pinte' (for .5l) which I have also heard in French
    bars.

You can also ask for a meter of drinks in a lot of bars.
Quite usual for Ricard, for example.

A line of shot-glasses on a wooden base is the only 'metre' of drinks
    I've seen in France.

The wooden base is for pikey bars.
Usually you just put glasses touching by their rims, then pours your
    favourite poison.

Yes, I know, but I was just helping you out with the spelling, as I
    know you struggle sometimes.

As is feeling the irrepressible need to sign one's name immediately
before the signature, obviously. On every fucking post made.

WTF is that all about, then?
