Had a conversation with an ex-pat in Leonora, WA, last time I was out there
and that subject came up. His response was that it *does* feel that way for
a month or two, then you adjust out of the British "Shit! A good day! Best
not waste it!" mentality and realise that it's odds-on going to be just as
nice tomorrow or next week or next month so you don't need to worry about
losing decent days on the beach as most of them *are* decent days...

And the in-laws who live over there seem to actually enjoy going to the
office when it's really hot as then they can use someone else's 'leccy to
power up the air con and then venture out at 5ish when it's still hot but
    more bearable.

  4. You might be on to something there. Hang on, didn't he have 10 billion
in a truck somewhere lifted from the central bank in a truck a few
nights before the americans got to Baghdad? So if 750.000 isn't enough
to pay of the us soldier that finds him this time, he has been found, oh
    say, 100 times already?

  8. *Read*? The whole thread? Including subject line? Sheesh, it's all got
    a bit serious around here...

  9. I'll bear that in mind if we're unlucky enough to have to go and live
there. At least it won't be all bad...

an Jose; climate, roads, countryside and close to San Francisco

    San Diego; climate, potential employer.

I *like* the US. I *like* the people in the US. I find them genuinely
friendly and I like the standard of living over there; or at least the
    standard I'd have.

I don't like what their leaders have done to the world but to some
extent the same thing applies to my leaders over here in recent history.

There is some utter shite posted on this NG from people who haven't got the
experience to know WTF they are talking about in this respect.

I liked Washington State maybe more than San Jose but I also liked Provo and
Utah though this is up at the mountains. I know Utah is a bit of a
    featureless Plain elsewhere.

Only been to Seattle in Washington. It's too cold for my taste.

I've lived somewhere cold and wet (UK). If I was to move it would be to
    somewhere warmer.

The best way to San Jose is on Novell's private jet hosted by Drew Major
    IMHO )

Nope. From Skyline, take Bear Creek to Hwy 17 and then to San Jose.

Ahh, so anyone that disagrees with your perspective does so simply
because they haven't had enough experience?

Has it ever crossed your mind that other people may indeed have
personal experiences on which to base their ilkes/dislikes, yet may
    still think diferently to you?

Indeedy, you're doing me a diservice. I said experience not perspective. Nor
was it constructed or intended as an attack on people who might have
experience on which they base a dislike of the USA. Had I only ever visited
New York (for instance) I'd nuke the place from orbit. On that basis, had I
only ever visited Dundee I'd nuke Scotland )
