Had an interesting conversation today with some people who are emigrating.
Seems that not all of the world is as screwed up as here. so..

If you could work anywhere in the world, where would it be and why?

Who have an argument to support, and limited knowledge of the other side
    of the fence.
There's always two sides. Here isn't as screwed up as other places in the
    world.
London, for a billion reasons. San Francisco, for the feel. Turin, for
the language, culture and style. Beijing, for the cheapness and the
willingness of the women to clean the apartment after sex.

New Zealand. 7 (IIRC) times the size of Britain, with the population of
    London. Peace, quiet, cleanliness. Apparently

  5. But they can't know how life is really going to be in their new home
until they get there and start living it. If you visit anywhere, even
for a few weeks, it is not the same.
Possibly Sydney. Having worked there on a secondment for a few weeks I
enjoyed the relaxed way of life, weather and general standard of
amenities. I'm not so naive to imagine that life there is just one great
    party though.

True, but their argument was interesting, He is moving with his job, and

Unless you get a job as a DJ in Ibiza, I dont think anywhere is

    Fremantle, WA.

If you've been there, you'll know - great weather, great place, Perth just
down the road (but a bit shite), great people, no Tory Blur (but I'd have to
    put up with John Howard).

Or, if that wasn't possible, anywhere within 30 mins of Cahors, France. I
just like it round there and they make great wine....

So long as I had people around me that made me happy, I don't care where
    "home" is.

I was originally thinking along the lines of the north-east (I like the
accent, the friendliness, the roads), or the Alpine region
(snowboarding). However, it may be that I enjoy each of those things
partly for the novelty and the break from the norm. Therefore, I'd
probably want to live here, or maybe somewhere closer to Manchester.

That way I'm close to the city for nightlife, and the above examples are
far enough away to still be special. As detailed in the first sentence,
where doesn't really matter so long as there's friends to enjoy yourself
    with.

    Birmingham's right out though.

  16. well yes but the weather isn't the sole determinant of happiness. I
think Christofire made the most relevant point - where your friends are
    is where "home" is.

Other aspects would be language, amenities, ease of use of
"bureaucracy", health care, education, culture, cuisine, scenery. How
you react to all of these depends very much on you as a person and
obviously how many dependents you have.

I liked Oz simply because I found I'd relaxed so much when I got back.
actually I'd imagine that this is a very tiring and demanding job. Hence
why only a few people are any good at it.
