Despite being a work shy slacker with no discernable skills I seem to have
landed myself a new contract. Unfortunately its near West Drayton/Slough
which is a bit far to commute to from my country residence so I'm going to
have to sort out some sort of digs during the week in the area.

So does the FOAK have any advice on areas to avoid, best bits to stay in
    etc in the area.

Parts of West Drayton look OK but how bad is the noise from the airport and
is Slough as bad as some people say it is...

    Yeah. Slough and West Drayton.

Assuming my bed arrives on Thursday, you're welcome to crash on an
airbed in my spare room for a few nights while you sort out something
more useful. I'm within a few minutes' walk of Maidenhead station
and it's marginally less grim than Slough. Marginally.

If you're close to the airport on the north side it's not too bad, I don't
think - so West Drayton is probably fine, at least in terms of aircraft
noise (bit of a poo-hole otherwise)

You really, really don't want to live just to the eastern and western edge
of the airport, unless you bring your earplugs

Best bits? Slough? Hmm, tough one.

See if you can rent a bed somewhere in Windsor.

    Yes.

    Heh, I thought as much.
I've got myself booked into a hotel nearby for the first couple of weeks
    but TVM for the offer.

Somewhat more stylishly, I have a spare room in fashionable East Sheen which
could be made available on a short term basis. Feel free to laugh at my
    risible fish

I'm OK for a couple of weeks but cheers for the offer, much appreciated,
and I would never laugh at another persons fish no matter how risible.

Vicious little bastards guppies, chuck in a Synodontis eupterus that'll
    sort them.

Seriously though it might be better off with your endlers if you've got
    them in a separate tank.

I'll ask my mate Sticky Nicky the Monkey-Hanger if she knows of any good
digs. She lives in Maidenhead, but knows a lot of folk in Sluff having
lived there until 3 months ago.
