Shouldn't it be going in the direction it's pointing?

  3. Not until the very last moment in a crosswind.

It is. The crosswind makes it look as though it isn't.

Fack! That is one serious crosswind - he looked to be close to 45 deg
to his direction of travel at the moment of touchdown, and the moment
he tried to straighten up, the wind tried to flip the plane over.

I wonder how nervous the passengers were when they came in for a 2nd
    attempt.

Is it? Your puter must be showing a different clip than mine.
The crosswind makes it look as though it isn't? Actually the crosswind STOPS
it pointing in the direction of travel. That thing is pointing a good 20
degrees off axis. Check out the B52 for an undercarriage that takes
crosswind "off angle" landings into account.

It is going in the direction it's pointing, relative to the air it's
    going through.

Air velocity and ground velocity being two completely different things,
    for both magnitude and direction.

Yep. It's going through the air in the direction it's pointing. The
crosswind makes it look as though it's going sideways, because you're
on land, and you're judging its direction by reference to points on
    the land.

I remember seeing a vid in Hong Kong where the landing in the Cross
    wind was perfect.

    Are here it is:

Interesting. You can see that when he straightened up, the wind tried
to tip the plane in the same way as the other one, but as the plane
dropped the last few metres the wind seemed to drop too.

I take it that this happens because, has the plane aligns with the runway,
the body shields the down-wind wing from the wind effect and it looses
    lift...

The wind strength decreases near the ground. Pilot competence is also a
    significant factor.

Sure. But in the original video, the pilot seemed to do much the
same, but the wind seemed to get right under the windward wing, when
    very close to the ground.

I can't see the control surfaces cleary in either vid, but the proper
technique is to anticipate that the crosswind will cause roll, and counter
    it using the ailerons.
