The good senator from Oregon, stood on the Senate floor in Washington, DC..
He stood in support of a bill to alleviate the phenomenon of teenage suicide
in the US..The good senator was overcome with grief and wept openly as he
spoke for the bill.. His grief and emotion was quite understandable.. You
see the good senator lost his teenage son to suicide..

The hearts of this nation goes out to Senator Smith during this tragic time
    for his family..

As the senator spoke, I could not help but recall.. just yesterday, network
news did an equally moving article on the tragic losses suffered by the
state of Oregon.. Those losses were the result of our war on terrorism in
    Iraq and Afghanistan..

The senator wept as he recalled memories of his beloved son and many who
watched had tears in their eyes and compassion for him in their heart.. He
did not recall the votes he cast on this same senate floor such a short time
ago.. The votes to deliver our nation to a war that some believe is
illegal.. The parents of those equally tragic deaths in Iraq and
Afghanistan are grieving and mourning their losses just as intensely as the
good senator grieves his own loss..

There is no indication that the good senator has ever attended one of the
funeral services for those brave warriors who made the ultimate sacrifice ..
Even though his vote contributed to placing those equally loved ones in
    harm's way.. Not one..

The compassion that we feel for the loss of his son, to such senseless
tradgedy must be felt by those surviving family members and parents of the
oh so young military members who are being returned in body bags..

Perhaps the blessing here would be that the good senator will reflect on
those votes and reconsider his postitions on the support of such senseless
slaughter of so many young ones.. both ours and theirs..
