This morning, like a lot of you, I got one of those scam e-mails, with
    the long-winded story about how someone's brother/father/first
cousin, twice removed, had a deal which entailed 20 million US dollars,
    etc. etc.

About an hour ago, I got another e-mail, claiming to be from Optus, for
me to give them my password for my mail account.

Only thing was the senders address, and reply to address were the same
    as the 20 mil story.

Are scammers getting dumber, or is there some subtlety that I am missing?

    regards,

I think they've just figured out that they don't need to be that clever
to fool the old, stupid or gullible into handing over their money.
According to an article in yesterdays newspapers $36 million per year
from Australia alone is being transmitted to Nigeria, and 80% of that is
believed to be as the result of fraud.

Some people are so stupid that even when they go to the bank and attempt
to transfer the funds through to Nigerian accounts, and the staff give
them vehement warnings that they are being tricked out of their money,
they refuse to believe and insist on sending the money despite the
warnings. Some people are just too stupid to have money.
