    Help needed

My girlfriend has an excel spreadsheet that every time she tries to
open it just closes excel down. While the info is not vital or
valuable and will only take her a couple of hours to re input I would
quite like to demonstrate my excel expertise (only I hav'nt got
any!!)and open it for her. Has anyone got any ideas on how this might
    be done?

I have tried all the 'normal' stuff ie using excel help and trying to
find a download on line that will do it

Thanks for reading this and even more thanks* if you try to help

    Martin

*and even more thanks if you suceed!!!! lol

    (martinonfire) somehow managed to post:
Try opening it with the [shift] key held down. IIRC This disables
Macros. You'll then possibly have to rootle around in the Macros or
VBA to see what's closing it.

I'd heard that MS stopped some corporate key codes from installing XP
service packs but would it actually cause existing stuff to stop working?

Thanks for all your help and tips

    1. Shift key - tried it - did'nt work

    2. Well it may not be an entirely legitimate version of XP or excel
(allegedly!!!) but all the other speadsheets open fine, as did the one
we are having trouble with until a month ago

    3. OpenOffice, hav'nt got it so can't use it - not sure how
'sensitive' it is as its not really my file so thanks for your kind
offer but I can't take advantage of it

Thanks for this, downloading it now - only going to take 3 weeks, 2
days, 4 hours and 15 seconds (may be a slight exageration) to
download. **** I hope broadband come to the sticks soon!!

Tell you what ... I've got broadband, so why don't I download it and then
    e-mail it to you.

    That should be _much_ quicker.

That sounds like a good idea.

    Are you all ready?

Right, a one, a zero, another one, three zeros in a row, one, zero, four ones
together, another two zeros, a six ...

Um, hang on, I'll get back to you.
