OT : Receiving money from someone in the US.

Discussion in 'UK Motorcycles' started by Brownz \(Mobile\), Mar 25, 2008.

  1. What's the easiest way to receive a payment from someone in the US, avoiding
    paypal.

Is it easy to xfer funds to a UK bank account from a US one ?

Any of the ukrm overseas contingent ever done this ?

  3. Umm, Electronic transfer I guess, but many septics aren't that clued
up about moving money around. They still use 'checks' (sic) FFS.
Sure, IBAN, Swift and account number is all you need.
I get free wire transfers from my US account (Washington Mutual), my
Dutch account charges me 7 euros for the currency conversion.

If you're not desperate for speed, your person in the US could send
the funds to me, and I could send them on to you.

Not to the UK, but several times from the UK to Canada; technically
straightforward - my bank required all the bank details including an IBAN
    number which, I think, is the international equivalent of a sort-code;
transfer officially takes a couple of business days, in reality its next day
or even same day - on the down side, the exchange rates are not always
brilliant (unless you're transferring more than 20,000 UKP) and there's a
    charge involved (21 UKP).

    Cheers

Tbh, PayPal is so widely used because it's quite hard
    to **** it up.

They'll need your IBAN number, which you can ask your bank
for if you don't have it, that is the international equiv
of your bank account number. It's just your sort code and
account number with some additional (international) numbers
    tacked on the front.

Depending on the bank's policay, it may be anything from
free to expensive. When I did one UK to Italy it cost me
    £25, fucking cheek.

But as I said up there ^^ unless you have a *really* good
reason not to use PayPal then that is the best method.
