I have just sold my lovely XJ6 which was the 4L sport and could easily
manage with the *lack* of fuel economy, i am now looking to get a
smart 4.6 Range Rover, what i would like to know is just how thirsty
    these things are?

I'm told that you can easily go down to 12mpg and this would be a little
excessive, i did average 20mpg in the Jag, this i can stand but 12, no way.

Anybody got any experiance of these vehicles?

    Thanks in advance.

No experience of them but surely LPG is the answer to your question

The tank holds 85 litres and you'll typically get around 300 miles out
of that. I've had 400 when Autorouting through France on cruise control
though. Mines the older 3.9 but it won't be far off.

My 3.9efi Rangie does around 15 to 18 on Petrol. I can believe the 4.6
    getting down to 12.

I once had a 3.5 V8 Range Rover which had been bobtailed. I took it from
here in Cumbria to Hull and back for an off-roading weekend. It averaged
around 25mpg on gentle throttle and keeping the momentum up. The previous
owner couldn't get more than 15mpg so MPG is largely down to how you drive.

Reminds me for driving the P5B; with a bit of effort I could get 15 to
the gallon. With a different soft of effort I could get 2 to the mile.

It's better now it's got the SDi Vitesse engine in there; 18-20 is
    achievable with a following wind.

I had a nold V8, twin Strombergs, 3-speed auto. Lovely old thing it was.

If I tiptoed it around, I got 15mpg. If I ranted the tits off it, I got
    15mpg.

never owned or run one myself but a lad who did reckoned fitting an old
car v8 inlet manifold made a big difference.

    In
You'll get between 9-15 out of it, depending on use, in the real world.

20 mpg is dreamland, might manage it once, but won't be something you'll see
    on a regular basis.

Either get an LPG converted one, or prepare to spend lots on fuel.

Mainly to the fuel injection, I'd assume. It wouldn't like it.
