I had a shit nondescript bike, then a grifter. I wanted a Raliegh Ultra
    Burner though.

I got a Raleigh Burner for crimbo when I was 7, to replace the Budgie.
Then some shitty 5-speed racer I bought off a mate for a fiver.

    Let's hear it for progress!

I had one of them. Metallic black with red pads oval top and down
tubes and red anodised wheels. Started my racing career on it aged 7.

I has whatever I'd managed to cobble together from salvaged parts I
got from the dump. But I still knew that mine was better than the
Chopper one of my mates had. Poof's bike, it was, and still is.

They did a black and gold one too. They rocked better than anything
children in junior school had ever seen.

I had one, it was metallic purple. Almost sounds rude.

I think I wrecked it once when I took it on the local bmx track, and went
up over one of the banks at either end - and right down over the back.

So it's ok to go up on a purple chopper but not to go down on one?

Had you fiddled with it before it came off?

No, I think the whole thing was gone before it was given to me.
You know we're going to be told to get a room shortly. :)

I can't think of another innuendo right now, but maybe I'll be able to give
    you one later.

ISTR they were also known as Clarks Commandos. My best mate had 'em,
whereas my shoes only came from Marks and Spencers

  20. I recall an earlier version of those in the mid-sixties.
    Proto-wayfinders, if you will.
