I went to see Steve Hillage on a school trip as a 6th former. Colston Hall
in Bristol was a fug of cannabis smoke. The journey home was quite
interesting. Minibus full of stoned teenagers most of whom had not got
stoned before. Even funnier was a stoned maths teacher who drove the
minibus in somewhat of an erratic manner along the Wye Valley from Chepstow
    to Monmouth.

Oh yeah, I remember those. Couldn't get one of them.

I wanted blakeys in my shoes too. Wasn't allowed those either.

  4. Prole. I had Nature Treks. My one regret was that I didn't get the Trooper
    version.

I had the misfortune some fifteen or so years later to have summat similar
fitted to a pair of shoes that I had reheeled. Trust me, you *did not* want
    Blakeys ;-)

There are some distinct advantages to being known as Zobo Kolonie after all
    :)

Grifters are way cooler than Choppers. Choppers are passe whereas
    Grifters have true class.
    Summat like that anyway.

I had the eternal footwear conundrum, could you put Blakeys in Docs?

    Yes.

And if that doesn't help... they were the metal things people put in
shoe heels (and sometimes soles) to stop wear.

Grifter bicycles are becoming something of a rarity since engineers
discovered that they were just the perfect weight with which to anchor oil
rigs, aircraft carriers, and other large ocean bound constructions.

Oh, I used them to make sparks, but we called them tackets!

  16. I was looking at pushbikes on eBay the other day to help a mate who has
a handbuilt 70s touring pushbike he wants shot of. There seems to be a
whole subculture of chopperheads (to coin a phrase) who pay each other
seriously silly amounts of money for whole bvikes and original spares.
£400 is probably for one with a bit of wear and tear; mint examples seem
to go for maybe twice that.

  17. Tackets, in your vernacular. Blakeys were a manufacturer, IIRC.

  18. I had a Budgie that was orange. And had to pretend it was a chopper.
    That's how poor *we* were!

Same here. Though I suspect it was more to do with the fact that I was
about 5 when I got my Budgie - a bit small for a Chopper.
