Southern (the rail company and my employer) issue drivers and guards
radio watches. Once you've made it set itself a couple of times the
novelty wears off and I quickly went back to the less nasty looking BR
    ones for wearing at work.

BR on the left, radio on the right:

I have a very nice 1975 automatic Garrard and a small black faced Smiths
from the 50's that I wear as day to day watches (obviously not at the
    same time).

  3. They've just issued us all with Piccadilly Line 100 Years radio watches
    - how they expect them to work in tunnels is beyond me!

They've already turned up on ebay too! Item 300113719725

Funny how you get to like them, one of mine is off the Seiko scal of
trying to work out the age from the serial number, the othermust be 20
years old if it's a day. Both work well. I bought the 3rd as soon as I
    realised production had stopped.

  5. Well they don't do they? They just synchronise once a day or so
(mains-powered clocks I have syrchronise once an hour, but they don't have
battery life to consider). The Casio tries every hour between something
like 0200 and 0500, and displays a symbol if it succeeds; if it doesn't,
the symbol is turned off. You can always get a display of the last time it
    successfully synched.

You may count that aas a catch if you were fishing...
I should crosspost this to utl -- it's going for far too little.
But then, I don't want to encourage this grasping culture of immediately
putting a gift up on eBay to turn a profit rather than appreciating
    it for itself.

Same here - a 1976 Garrard (inscribed to the original owner, who I
knew well). I have a box full of '40's onwards watches that I
wear/rotate regularly, as well as pocket watches, which I was known
for when I was at IBM, often wearing a waistcoat and fob etc. Love
    the old stuff :)

  7. Not really, but it was meant as a bit of a tongue in cheek comment.
Agreed. I quite like the watch, and the fact that it's constantly
    accurate is a bonus.

FWIW, I personally know the vendor - one of our union reps he is too.

....and he's a very naughty boy. We've lost a couple of eBay related
    dismissals.

Meant to ask ages ago what branch are you?

Pretty sure the branch is Arnos Grove. I have reasons to like AG -
reasons that will become clear in a couple of weeks.

But thanks for posting it here at least. I won the auction. I'm a
biker and I collect watches, so does that make it alright? And I'll
keep and appreciate it. I also disagree with selling gifts (well, at
least not straight away :) )

The Southern issued watches aren't gifts; they're part of our equipment
    and belong to the company.

Which I suppose would make them more collectable...
