    Right then. I'm off to Dublin tomorrow morning to spend a few days at
    a power station and I appear to have made a mistake by thinking that
    because a hotel is described on a website as being in the city centre
    then in the city centre is where I'll find it.

    W're stopping at the Best Western in Clondalkin and it appears to be
    about 10k from the city centre. Are bus services frequent and reliable
    and are taxis the normal rip off you expect to find in cities?

    Someone please make me laugh by telling me that either Clondalkin is a
    good area for going on the piss or that there's a bus runs to and from
    the city centre every 15 minutes until 1am.

  4. Buses do seem to be frequent and there is a night bus.

    The 51 group of routes seem to be the appropriate ones. Departure Point
    seems to be Aston Quay in Dublin City Centre.

    I don't use taxis and have never been to Dublin so that's the limit of
    my travel info help.

    I was in Dublin a couple of years ago for a meeting, when I arrived in
    Dublin Airport at some ungodly hour, was accosted by a bus ticket salesman
    (best description) Who told us to ask for a rover ticket, same price as a
    straight return (city centre) but allowed unlimited transport on all bus
    routes! This was offered on the express bus
    This was put to good use when we missed the flight back (express bus... I
    don't think so) and got a bus back into Dublin got pissed and bus back to
    the airport for a later flight, all on the original ticket, 5 euros IIRC, it
    certainly wasn't expensive

  9. Depends on the bus service in question, and the taxis are as you
    guessed.

    Ho yuss. I once made the mistake of jumping into a cab in Dun Laoghaire
    and telling the driver that I was running a bit late for my flight.

    Fair play, we made the flight, but I was in dire need of a toilet before
    take off.

    I grew up just across the dual carriageway from there. The things you
    need to know are:

    i: Veronica Guerin was shot in the immediate vicinity;

    ii: Buses 51 and 78 will get you there or thereabouts but you can
    also check the night buses (Nightlink);

    iii: you can take a taxi but remember they can be hard to get in
    Dublin city centre;

    iv: you can also take the Luas (tram) to the Red Cow roundabout and
    taxi from there. What with Irish licensing hours, you'll have no
    trouble getting a taxi at the Red Cow (the roundabout and tram
    stop are named after the boozer of that name);

    v: Clondalkin is a bloody awful area for going on the piss (mainly
    because there's little else to do).

    Which power station by the way?

    She was played by Cate Blanchett in the movie.

    So nobody's told him what closing time is in Dublin?

    vaguely rings bells.
    apparently he had three pints last night and wandered back to the
    hotel eating Pizza.

    doesn't matter how late the closing time is when you have to be in
    work for 8am and it takes 45 mins to get there.
