When Citröen brought out the BX range, they had the basic BX 16 RS, and the
slightly more posh BX 16 TRS. When the diesel came out, there was the BX 19
RD, and there should should have been the BX 19 TRD, but this got changed to
DTR for the UK, because they feared that the rosbifs would call it the Turd.

I had a BX, as you know. Acquired from Tuppy when I really needed a
car - and passed on to Catman (complete with your clutch cable and
manual) when he really needed one. Whether either of us needed one
that badly is open to speculation, but that's by the by.

Anyway, the BX was a 1.7 diesel wivvout turbo. A slug it was. Its
designation was BX 17 TGD - TurGiD.
A more appropriate epithet was never uttered in the direction
    of a mechanical contrivance.

There was a BX Auto Diesel. I don't know whether it was the 17 or the 19,
but I understand it was a touch steady. The 17XUD wasn't a bad engine,
reasonably sprightly in the Visa range. I think there was some French tax
advantage in the lower capacity. And it was the 17 which eventually got the
    turbo.
