OT Phase of the Moon

What was the phase of the moon on the 19th of July 2007 and would it have
been a bright moonlit night?

I've never got my head round the moon thing: it's either bright or it's
not. While we're at it what's the difference between a new moon and a
full moon?

 

A new moon is when you've got a slither of moon, a crescent shape and a
full moon is is when the whole moon is showing, like a big silvery disc.

July 19 was a new moon so probably wasn't a bright moonlit night.
