Sum of the parts I reckon. Some very good films have been made with
little or no effects. Some other crackers are mostly a technology
    showcase.

Also known as Five Million Years To Earth. Very good movie, AOl on the
scary bit. You can have your very own Martian custom built for a mere
    $1500.

The Day The earth Stood Still and War Of The Worlds are two more I like.

When I was seven, I 'watched' War Of The Worlds with my thumbs in my
ears and fingers over my eyes.

When the young lad gets his head smashed in, because he had the "disease"
was the the end. I wasn't the only one to walk.

I found it to be totally gratuitous; why didn't they just shoot him the the
    head?

  14. It was somewhere around Barstow, on the edge of the desert, when the
**** the lot o' yis; "Forbidden Planet", but only the scenes of the
planet power generators and the learning devices.

That fucking robot and the dumb-as-a-box-of-rocks spaceship crew can
    **** right off.

It's a difficult question to answer, but it's definitely not "Star
Wars" (which isn't even really SF, just pulp Space Opera).

    I've a fond spot for "Silent Running",[/QUOTE]

Yus. And I also like 'The Quiet Earth'.

Oh, and 'Night of the Comet' ;~)

  16. Off the top of my head, can['t think of the best.

    Good ones:-

Dark Star, Silent Running, Forbidden Planet, 2001, Star Wars (Return of
the Jedi for preference), Soylent Green, Alien (Aliens, for preference,
esp. the director's cut), Terminator 2, Things To Come....

.....a remarkably small canon, in fact.
