You would on the sections where he was wheelspinning, but not higher up
where it was drier and he got a steady momentum going.
    Illegal now.
Well, I think the objection was based more om the encouragement it would
give lots of other 4x4 owners to follow the example rather than the damage
done by a single vehicle. I go out with the local Landrover owners club
off roading so I can see both sides of it. The Local LRO also do
conservation work on unmetalled roads which the council fail to maintain
so as usual it's a matter of give and take.

You'd better tell Scottish National Heritage

    http://www.moorlandforum.org.uk/

    and DEFRA,

    http://www.defra.gov.uk/corporate/rds/hgbc.pdf

    then.
The majority of Fourbye owners wouldn't go more off-road than the
local Waitrose carpark, and you know it.

Why should JC driving a Land Rover up a mountain encourage hordes to
copy him, when there's been no suggestion that large sports coupe
owners have been seen charging along beaches all over the country.

I haven't noticed an outbreak of caravan conkers, either.

  3. The best place to test a 4x4 is in a 4x4 environment and as was rightly
pointed out, that isn't in the city.

I'm sure there were more car enthusiasts that were impressed and
interested in the test than eco-nuts that were pissed off about it[1]
I only knew one George and he was a prat as well.

[1] Just for the sake of being pissed off.

Oh well I'm sure you're right then, I know stubble burning has been
    outlawed.
    True but irrelevant
It's a celebrity precedent? Dunno, I'm not one of the sheeple.
    Give it time.

And it's not virgin hillsides either. What's wrong with an establish dirt
track and an off roading course?
I've been almost to the top of Ingleborough (2300 ft) in a landy with the
Upper Wharfedale fell rescue. It's just part of the job.

Jeremy had to get pulled through the bog at several points, so how much of
a useful test it was is debatable IMO.

  6. Because it's established. Every man and his dog goes on established
paths. Clarkson was using his initiative.
Were you the main speaker ;o)
If that was true, it proved that the vehicle wasn't up to the task. I'd
call that a pretty successful test.

Jeremy Clarkson v George Monbiot. Starts on the topic of 4x4s going up a
G.M just went out of his way to be offensive. Whats the point?

  12. I've always liked Clarkson.

I like the destruction tests and racing 500BHP SORovers and stuff.

You can always tell what kind of yorkie by asking which town menwith hill
    is near.

Jeremy would almost certainly pronounce it 'Harrow-Gate' rather than the
    standard dialect 'Arrergut'.
