Yes, the GTD is the diesel equivalent, but wasn't even launched when I
    got my car.

The GT is most of the way there in terms of spec, in essence it's a UK
market enhanced highline spec with added sports suspension, alacantra
sports seats, driving lights and similar levels of kit to the GTI/GTD
models, but only with the 160 petrol and 140 diesel engines, not the
210 petrol, or 170 Diesel (which incidentally is a bag of shite for
lots of urban use anyway, as the DPF has a habit of clogging up).

I don't think I'm saying that, but I'm full of beer & no food so
    anything's possible.

Dunno, I did the research when we purchased and there was nothing neg
about that model, course a year later and there's chat of all sort of
electrical issues etc, too fucking late for me but there you go.

I'd try to sort the knock then flog it quick. Any hit you take on the
price won't be a patch on how much it'll cost to keep on the road. I'd
guess that's what TOG's neighbour eventually realised.

    Jude's 206cc went for >70000km over 7 years without a single problem.
Oh, it had a flat battery a couple of years ago, so we had to push
start it once. Replacement bought the next day. Other than that, not a
    single glitch.

  7. He gave up taking t back to the dealer after the nth time.

It was just the sheer hassle of things not working, immobiliser/alarm
system misbehaving, engine management warning light coming on and off as
    the spirit willed it......

He sourced the re-set tool for the electrical system, and used it all
the time. It would last maybe 100 miles before it started playing up.

The day he traded it in, he used the re-set tool, grabbed the BMW estate
he was buying, and legged it.
