  1. From Ironycentral.com: More Parenting Wisdom

"Grand Theft Auto 3 is a marvelous and hugely popular video game that
rewards violence, cruelty, and the most savage and barbaric behavior
imaginable. I have decided that I will not let Cordelia play it until
she is ten or so. While the subject matter is mildly questionable, as
a professional computer game designer, I feel it is my sacred parental
duty to show her what a well-designed game is like.

"It's sort of like showing your child a sunset for the first time. And
then stealing a car and giving it to her so she can run over a
    prostitute.

"I haven't yet come up with a good reason to show her Taxi Driver when
she's eight. But I'm sure I will and, when I do, it'll be really
    convincing."

Personally I think 5 year olds know enough already about 'violence,
cruelty, and the most savage and barbaric behavior imaginable' but
hey, I have 5 years to find out.

My 3 year old son, Charlie, played GTA for a bit on my PS-2 when I
couldn't find any other games for him to have a go on. About a month
later he said to Claire, "Mommy when you take people out of their cars
    on daddy's puter, that's naughty isn't it?".

I told her I thought he'd learned a valuable lesson to be honest but she
wasn't amused. She seems happier now that he's firing missiles at worms.

Bad form I know, but that really didn't make sense did it?

Hmm, short term business strategy. He'll be no use in the family business
if you keep that up. ;-)

  10. Quite. Give a man a fish, he can eat for a day and all that...

Give a girl a trick, she can eat for a week!
