Wife in France got a parking fine. Holiday rep. says if she doesn't pay then
wife will be traced through our DVLA. True or myth?

Does it matter? She parked illegally. Pay the fucking fine.

  3. It didn't used to be possible, but may be it is now. I've had several
parking fines in France and never paid any of them. One was for
parking a truck on the Promenade des Anglais in Cannes.

Just last week there was the case of a Swedish Snow mobile getting a
threatener from some UK Midlands council for non payment of a parking
fine. Needless to say , the snow mobile had never been to England. It
turns out the highly efficient and intelligent 'parking attendant' had
got the country of registration wrong.
Maybe there are some reciprocal agreements between EU countries for
    data sharing now.
    Personally, I'd wait and see.

Was the vehicle on French plates? If so, the fine will go to the owner
of the vehicle, who is obliged (IIRC) to pass it on to the person
driving the vehicle at the time. In this case, the owner should have
    all the details already.

If they don't, I don't think that they can go through the DVLA, as
AFAIK, there are still no agreements between the UK and France.

Schengen? Open borders? Don't see the relevance, however a Dutch
parking ticket followed me home. Persistent those Dutch.

You don't have to pay it...

Extract: "The Schengen Agreement on Co-operation in proceedings for Road
Traffic Offences and the Enforcement of Financial Penalties thereof was
adopted at the final meeting of the Schengen Executive Committee on 28
April 1999. The Agreement is not binding on the UK since it was concluded
before the entry into force of the Treaty of Amsterdam. However, the
Government has decided to apply to participate in it".

In france this weekend - Pure coincidence I got one as well - but a
    slight problemo!
I saw the ticket ( only 11 euros!) and went into the hotel to get the
keys to move it. On my return after about 2 minutes it had gone. Not
imagining things so wandered into the police station to be told it was
a council ticket. Its now 11pm Saturday night and the office isnt open
on Sundays - when I was returning to the UK!
I went along the deny all knowledge approach!

  12. OK this info is 4 years old but a friend of mine in Kent got a parking
fine in Germany and several weeks later received a demand from some
international debt collection agency employed by that German state.
It was a hire car on German plates.
He returned the demand with a "not known at this address" written on it
    and heard no more.
