  3. I get on OK with thunderbird, but does Windows Mail not include a
    newsreader?

You can install it from Windows Live Essentials over the web, or you can
    use something competent instead.

    What's Windows 7 like then?

Yes, they've moved the functionality to Windows Live Mail, which is a
    free download.

I like Gravity, but for months have been using Agent off a USB stick.

It's pretty good. Good enough to migrate off XP IMHO.

Here... I'll wrap up the whole thread for you.

Cue usual list of responses containing:-
    Xnews
    XanaNews
    Agent
    Gravity
    Thunderbird

    Plus the obligatory:-
    Ditch Windows and use Linux/Mac

FWIW I've tried all the above Windows software. They all read news, but
they all do things subtley differently. Try them all and go for the one
that suits you. It's like asking what the best sports bike is.

I was waiting for it to be released before I think about upgrading my
home PC to something more recent. You don't reckon it's even worth
    waiting for the first SP?

All my main stuff is still on XP, but I've recently stuck a parallel 7
RC install on the machine and am using that occasionally (CBA to
install everything as you can't upgrade directly from XP anyway).
Amazingly it just works so far, even on my slightly oldish Thinkpad
    X32.

Well havng done both a laptop and desktop which are on my AD i am so
far impressed, it took less than 45 minutes to complete on the desktop
and 30 mins for the laptop, it is "quicker" and i can notice it even
with just 2gb Ram, so far and it's only been 24 hours i have found it
to be very good and worth the upgrade.

On the laptop i did from XP pro but Win7 has no logical upgrade so
it puts a new system on, on the desktop Vista pro and both worked like
a dream, so far so good, and it's quicker.
