Is that like "Nanny says you should change your posting name and get all
'mysterious' every now and then just so those who read every single post
ever might have an idea why you're being vague and you can feel like it's
    all worth it"?

Whilst I can almost appreciate what they're trying to say, it's nowhere near
    as (unintentionally) funny as http://thebiggestsecret.online.fr/englhome.htm
    and less objective, imo....

  3. It's hardly mysterious. I've changed my posting name for personal
reasons. It was clearly signposted that I was going to do so. It
doesn't affect you or anyone else here. I was surprised to get a text
from Champ saying 'you're WIP' I thought it was clear. I'm using the
same newsreader, the same server, the same computer. I haven't raised
the issue of the change, others have.
I'm not being vague. I've carried on posting in exactly the same
fashion as before. It's not like I'm doing a lushhead and hiding
behind an identity to be abusive.

My guess is you're just in a snit because you haven't worked out who I
    am.
One look at the background was enough.

    Oooh! Handbags!

Jesus, take fucking joke, why don't you.

I only realised you'd changed your name when I saw Champ and a couple of
others mention it today and, as it doesn't affect me, I'm not exactly going
to go try figure out who you are - if it mattered then I'd know, wouldn't I?

I just don't get *anyone* posting on here (or anywhere) being less than
    honest about who they are.

It ain't real life, but so what - a fake/enhanced/hidden Identity is still a
fake ID whether it's IRL or online and if someone isn't comfortable just
holding their (i-)hands up and saying "this is me, no compromise" well
they're the one with the problem(qv lushhead, wolfenden etc)

    You're Ogden with tits...

    <looks at photo of Ogden>

    OK, let's start again.

    You're Ogden.

  7. Don't tell me you needed a smiley.
I did, hence my snit comment. I also saw the opportunity to discuss
    the significance of names.
In what way have I been less than honest? The majority of posters here
do not use their given names. I can think of at least half a dozen
valid reasons for a persona to be used.

And surely 'wavydavy' is hardly who you are.

I spent my first 6 years or so on usenet posting under my real name,
at a certain point in my life I adopted the old posting name, as
circumstances changed it was no longer suitable so now I've got this
    one.
So you want I should carry an ID card on usenet?
But this is me, no compromise. Why does having a posting name attached
    make it less so?

Been known as that for over 15 years in/around Nottingham/Derby and not
changed it on here, so it's a pretty good indicator of my identity.

    Ex-directory, innit?
    You bored or something?

Two posts hardly constitutes a fuss - I mean its not like we're arguing over
whether Alfas are unreliable or anything, is it?

Keep that up and I might develop a complex.
