Having worked for Samaritans for a few years I have to say that
missing people don't go missing unless they want to go missing.

Should he wish to, I'm sure he will come back if he can.

What will he gain from coming back? After getting stuck in a looney
bin he'll get arrested for theft of a car from work, he'll get sacked
from his job and now he's going to have everyone from the local area
pointing and laughing at him because his face is plastered in shop
    windows.

You can be a barrel of laughs.

So far he has text his wife once, with "I love you".

He has left his keys and cards behind.

    Withdrawn no money.

A dock has been dredged (and they found another vehicle with a womans
    body).
