OK, its off topic as its about repairing a cage. Nothing major, just the
door check strap anchor is loose and needs fixing, however, the original
fixing was prolly some robot that did it from behind the door pillar and
before all the interior was put in :-(

So, FOAK that is UKRM, I vaguely remember people here talking of some form
of metal epoxy which i assume's similar to araldite?
Its not for filling a crack or anything like that, it needs to effectively
    "weld" the anchor in place.

    Anyone?

Belzona e-metal is bloody good stuff. I'd prolly wang a few pop rivets
through as well just to be sure.

I'd seen that via your previous recommendation on google groups, but i'd
dismissed it thinking that it might not do the job.
as for pop rivets, i cant as the plate id need to drill through is a loose
one behind the door pillar, so i could drill through the pillar metal but
then the plate will just move away from the bit :-/ I *could* wangle a way
to do it but it involves removing the actual car door, not a job I'd like to
    do.

I think I may pop to Halfords tomorrow and see what they sell, as
recommended by another ukrmer (again, just spotted via google)

    Glue will not work.
Drilling a couple of holes and fitting two nuts and bolts will, if you
can get access behind for the nuts, or tapping the holes if you can't.

Is it a Vauxhall by any chance?

Maybe abandon the original plate, punch in a bit of a hollow into the pillar,
and weld a piece of 1/4" bar across to fasten the strap to?

Not if it's a posh motah of course )

  15. Have a look at www.volvoclub.org.uk Search the forums.
The door check strap is a common failure on the 850 and V70 and there is
a way of doing this. A mate had to do this last year on his 60K mile 97
    V70.
Hows the T5 otherwise? I am thinking of getting one this year.

Yeah, mine went on the v70xc at 80k miles. Needs to go to the body
shop to get sorted, but there's loads of little scratches and stuff to
do as well, so I'll get it all done at the same time. Not _too_
expensive either, at around 500 notes all in (including spraying four
    panels and the bonnet).
How do you know it's a T5? The one in his sig is surely a scoot, no?

IME the V70 T5 is a great car, but I wouldn't like to be without the
4wd of the XC, despite it being only the LPT motor with 200 ponies,
rather than the 240 of the T5.

It's not that posh, fucking lovely and quick though being a Turbo (my first
one) unfortunately I found this under the car this morning.

Yes, definitely oil, but from the fecking radiator expansion chamber, so
**** the door strap for now :-(

  18. My mate did it himself after finding details on the VOC web site. I cant
    remember how he did it.
I remember he posted about it only costing ~800 sheets at auction, very
    cheap for a T5, 850s are looking like 2K for 120K miles and V70s 4K for
    ex plod 150K miles.
T5s can be cheaper than LPTs presumably because of the increased
insurance and likihood of having been thrashed.
