There's enough of them over there. Over 75% of my family are on the
    island.

  3. How odd. I might be going to Malta then but for the very saddo reason of
seeing and using the amazing ancient bus fleet before it is swept off
the road in July when Arriva take over the entire bus network. Decades
of unique operation and vehicles will disappear overnight. I'm sure
I'll enjoy the scenery and weather too. The other insights in this
    thread have been helpful too.
By fighter jet if she wants to do a day trip ;-)
I've not heard that the hotels are noticeably worse than those here in
    the UK.

Most of the proper old converted wartime Bedford and Dodge pick-up
fleet has been decommissioned now, but a few are still in service -
they've moved into the 1970s with some old Plaxton bodied Bedford
    coaches and suchlike.

I'd say it was worth going to see, make a trip to the main bus station
where's there's loads. I wonder if the new modern fleet will still let
the drivers have their little shrines to the virgin in the front. I
did wonder if they were in lieu of maintenance.

Heh. There's a church in the Naples area where locals take their vehicles
to be blessed. Their *belief* on the roads has to be experienced.

    Arriva? FFS!

Those semi-scruffy old yellow buses are part of the fabric, aren't they?
I essayed several trips on them and was thoroughly entertained - perhaps
the best public transport experience I've ever had. Yes, they're hot
and noisy and rattly and smoke a bit, but so does most of the population
    - and you don't expect the locals to run on time either.

    I think it'll be a sad loss.

  11. 172 Chinese built buses, 50 bendy buses from London and a smattering of
hybrid power midibuses take over from what is there now.

Yuk. And bendy buses? That's going to be fun.

Just google "malta buses" and you'll see what's there now. It's going to
    be a sad loss.

Wtf were they thinking of when they decided to do this? Maltese buses
are famous the world over, taking them off the road and relacing them
with modern bendy buses is like demolishing the Mosta dome or pumping
    concrete into the catacombes.

It's a part of the heritage and it boils my piss that it's an EU ruling
    that's forced them into it.

  18. Their day is over, especially now Libya is becoming a depleted uranium
dump and you spiks will have no export market for the buses that have gone
out of service due to natural causes.
