her who needs to be obeyed has this idea she wants to vivit Malta in two weeks time, so where is best to stay for a combination of a beach and something to see, i have no idea what there is tosee but someone here might know.
It's not super for beachs although there is sandy beach at Meliha{sp}, TBH it matters not where you stay the island is pretty small, the roads fairly shonky and the driving standards relaxed. I really like Malta, there's some excellent diving there if that's your thing and the general hospital is pretty swanky.[1]
And she wants to go to Goa, is that feasible?
I'll take a stab and guess you mean Gozo. In which case it's a 20 minute ferry crossing from Cirkkawwa{sp}.
If you want to go to Comino or Gozo, the only way to go (if he's still running) is Tony Banis' Oki Koki (from St Julians IIRC)
I went to Malta when I was 16 with my Dad and his lady at the time. We went in August as I recall and it was terrifically hot, which got me down a bit. We stayed in some nice apartments with a pool in Sliema, hired a Honda Civic (bear in mind this was 1983) and spent 2 lovely weeks there. When we first arrived however, the apartment was teeming with cockroaches which the landlord came and removed/fumigated while we had a day out. We did St Paul's Bay, the Blue Grotto, day trip to the ancient pagan temple on Gozo, shopping in Valetta, I went on a night cruise with a load of girls I met there and we took a boat trip around the entire island. I even managed to find a horse-riding yard and took a few hours trekking across the hills, seeing parts of the countryside that car/bike transport won't. Beware the local wine, it might give you the trots. Food is Italian/Arabic fusion as is the language and the driving. When I went, hire cars had stripes on the side for the locals to aim at... tarmac is shiny smooth and so are everyone's tyres but you might see some lovely vintage vehicles. I've never been to Cuba but I imagine the comparison is close. Oh and Pip's right about the religious festivals, not only is there a lot of parading of Mary statues and singing, there are usually lots of fireworks and late night drinking sessions to be had. So, my advice is stay cool by the pool during the day and enjoy the scenery either early in the morning or closer to dusk. It may all have changed of course, in the last 30 years but I really liked it back then (apart from the heat!). Have fun and don't forget pics.
