her who needs to be obeyed has this idea she wants to vivit Malta in
two weeks time, so where is best to stay for a combination of a beach
and something to see, i have no idea what there is tosee but someone
    here might know.

And she wants to go to Goa, is that feasible?

Are there 4* hotels like out 4* or are they crap?

Loads. From prehistory through WWII to the present, there's more
history there than you can shake a stick at. Looks fantastic too, if
you just want scenery - oh, and hire a Mini-Moke.
Regular cheap ferries - great trip ... if you mean Gozo, as Goa is a bit
    distant.
The *cough*SAGA*cough* hotel I stayed in was as good as any UK/European
hotel I've stayed in. Clean, aircon, balcony. Decent staff, decent
scoff and plenty of it, reasonable choice on the menu, cheap local beer.
Piano player that would shut up and **** off for 20 minutes if you
    bought him a whisky.

I loved the place and would be delighted to return - I can't understand
the ex-pat Spics who've left the place, TBH.

I have been twice, i rather like it. Plenty of history on all levels, but
there are a lot of churches (365 i think)

Beaches are shit though, unless you go to sunny beach, which is a sand beach
with **** all to do nearby.

It gets fucking hotter than hot.

Goa? You know that's in India, right?

Absolutely, the torture chamber is really rather grphic, too :)
Haha! Gozo, not Goa, they do a nice evening trip & BBQ too.
Some nice old houses in the hills to rent too.
    Quite.

Dunno. I read/heard years ago that the churches are the main draw for
most of the tourists, which instantly put it quite high on my list of
    places never to bother with.

Spoilsport. I would've loved to see Mrs Crowder go into a travel agent
& ask for a two center holiday to Malta & Goa.

It's not super for beachs although there is sandy beach at Meliha{sp},
TBH it matters not where you stay the island is pretty small, the
roads fairly shonky and the driving standards relaxed. I really like
Malta, there's some excellent diving there if that's your thing and
the general hospital is pretty swanky.[1]
I'll take a stab and guess you mean Gozo. In which case it's a 20
    minute ferry crossing from Cirkkawwa{sp}.
Only ever hired apartments they were fine.

[1] Although I'd have rather not found that out.

The thing about the churches is that every village has one: a gurt thing
with a dome and everything. I'm not into trolling round churches per
se, but they're integral to the society and particularly picturesque in
that every view has a dome in it and they stand out really well against
the skyline, particularly in the evenings.

The church-centred society means fiestas too and they're nothing short
of spectacular. Religious aspects aside, I was fascinated (not to
mention uplifted (but that might have been the beer)) by the energy, the
enthusiasm and the music. Every night, it semmed, one of the churches
would be doing something involving a performance and it couldn't be
    beaten for free entertainment.

If the churches are the main draw that's a good thing as it keeps all
the bloody tourists out from under the feet of the atheists and there's
bucketloads more to see and do than poke around religious artifacts.

Our gain, thoughbut. At least, the two I'm thinking of both have their
    uses. Occasionally.

I'm a devout atheist but I quite like going to look at churches,
cathedrals, monasteries, etc. Mainly for the architecture - I ignore
    all the religious significance.

If you want to go to Comino or Gozo, the only way to go (if he's still
running) is Tony Banis' Oki Koki (from St Julians IIRC)
