Went to bed early last night feeling a little achy and tired. Woke up
at midnight, 1am, 2am, 3am coughing, drowning in snot and with a sore
    throat.

So far this morning I've sucked half a dozen lozenges, drank 3 mugs of
bovril, had toast and honey and a raw garlic clove.

I *have* to be out at 8pm tonight, boss is taking myself and
colleague out to celebrate the report we've spent nearly a year on
    finally being published.

What's going to make me feel less like crap between now and then?

If you're snotty then get some Otrivine - about £2.50 from your
local chemist/Boots/etc. Comes in a little squirty bottle.

This *works*. It stops your nasal passages from being swollen
so reduces the stuffyness, and also stops you producing snot.
Five minutes after, you'll be able to breath and won't be blowing
    your nose.

It doesn't stop you feeling like shit, but it stops the symptoms.

    *boggle*

Never heard that one before, although there are quite a few old wives'
tales based on assumption that the body knows best how to heal itself.
And meaning no disrespect to old wives in general, most of them, like
    this, are 100% cobblers.

If you have a raised temperature, your body will be less able to deal
with infection. Taking anti-phyritics will help the healing process as
well as making you feel much less shit in the interim.

I was going to say this just before I spilt coffee over the feckin
    keyboard.
When you start to feel shit like that, running a temperature, cool baths
will make you feel better, or lying beside an open window with a cool
    breeze blowing through.

Contac 400 from your local chemist

    They dry your nose up.

Used them many times when I've felt ill and had to work, and back when I was
in kitchens snotty noses were not an option!

You still have the rough cold feeling, but hey it's only fellas that REALLY
    suffer the symptoms ;)

I'm a great believer in decongestants such as this - my favourite was
always Pseudoephedrine, such as in this, or Sudafed. It seems that the
majority of these have now changed from that active ingredient, as
it's been over-used in the production of Crystal Meth, so I don't know
if the new formulation's as effective (for me) or not.

So best skip the middle man and go with Ogden's suggestion. It _will_
    make you feel better, guaranteed.

Oh, and I forgot to say - there is a school of (medical) thought that
says that a runny nose is an active helper in ridding the body of the
virus, so stopping this process may prolong the course of the cold or
flu. I've never been convinced, but the logic of the argument seems
    sound.

It's something that I find / feel to be true. If I don't take anything,
bar vitamin C, then I get over them quicker than if I dose up on stuff.

That said, when I really have to sleep and feel better the next day,
    Nyquil does it for me.
