OT leaving home

    I suspect it's because IT at a relatively senior level is just a big
    doss by any real standard.

    nothing would get done here without constant "coffee machine
    conferences" and stoking the rumour mill. I found it really weird at
    first, but now I love it.

    How things have changed from only a short time ago when I would have
    claimed not to do politics at work.

    As I explained to a work experience kid we had in when I was at Siemens,

    "Look around this office. There are 6 women here, and one of them's a
    bloke."

    I don't really know what the expectations are in other industries but
    for the work I do employers are more interested in experience than
    qualifications.

    The biggest problem is that you really need to have worked abroad
    before you can really claim to have 'been there, done that' and not
    many people have the experience to even get the overseas jobs now let
    alone expand on that.

    So many feedlines and so many people to use them. Go for it.
