After all that effort to find the right pans, too. Mine dew, I was
impressed by the cheese you had in - verr nice, despite being
    yank-produced.

Sounds like an excess of the maternal instinct.... you know the one that
dictates that off-spring are incapable of making a good decision, therefore
all decisions must be taken in conjunction with the parent (and when the
parent wants your opinion on a subject, they'll give it to you!).

I was in receipt of significant amounts of grief when we came over the
Canada last year and received large amounts of "advice" from parents and
in-laws that my take on employment prospects were excessively pessimistic,
that Canada would not be a suitable place for bringing up kids, that life
here would be worse that the UK, that the UK is a paradise ....blah,
    blah......<yawn>. They were wrong! :)

I live with a girl who is used to the sort of tin openers that slice the
entire top of the can off - the kind with a pivot right at one end. We've
got the kind that cuts the lid off in the usual manner (ie, goes vertically
against the can rather than horizontally, and cuts the lid off the same way
as a proper manual can opener would). She still tries to use it as if it's
the new fangled kind, and cuts herself to shreds every time she opens a tin,
    despite being shown how...

Either that or Dan's been a miserable fucker all these years and Mum assumes
the Trouble & Strife is to blame.

That's just the English ones, odd. The French ones are a right fucking
bunch. Past time the Induits finished them off.

No personal experience of it myself as I've never tried to get a job with a
big corp. OTOH, it is a fairly good indicator of brain presence or absence.
If someone hasn't got an A or a B in General Studies (and they took it),
    they're generally an idiot.

I had it easy. My parents returned to Hong Kong and left me behind as
one of four tenants renting my parents' house.

No but I do live in an area of Ontario that is not normal run of the mill
even by Canadian standards. We live in the Upper Ottawa Valley which is a
very rural area and wholly unlike Toronto and its surroundings. People here
have maintained a good work-life balance (work to live rather than live to
work). In general. they have a reasonable sense of humour too (far closer to
the UK than the septics). One refreshing thing we've found is that the vast
majority of Canadian recognise that the country is founded on immigration -
there's no artificial class distinctions over here, and (except the French!)
national background is less important - what's seen as more important is
having a "can do" attitude and getting on with life and getting involved.

  19. Have you been there when the snow goes yet? Kin amazing it is.

I was on a training course with Sun there the week it melted. Monday it
was all brown dead looking grass and by Friday it had turned into full
on green prairie, like magic painting. No birdsong though, which I
found rather disturbing, I missed the spaggers.

  20. What's not to like?
I suppose you mean the smaller producers of beer and cheese. I don't
mind large producers of pickups and guns.
