On Tue, 11 May 2004 21:51:07 +0100, Champ blathered on about:

[of Joe Public not permitted in train cabs any longer]
Weeell, you could always join a railway preservation society and have a go
there; the SVR's not far from you, nor is the West Somerset Railway and
the flippin' Swindon & Cricklade Railway is right on your doorstep.

    <thinks>

....Actually, it's a BHaLC thing, is it? You're more likely to be pissed
off at the principle rather than the want to have a go, aren't you?

    [snip road-ragey stuff]
Umm, <sniffs bait> ok then, I'll acknowledge it was a sweeping
generalisation, however, there's a lot of it about; fuckwittery behind the
wheel of (generally) German cars that is, although the generalisation is
    prevalent, also.
    :)
Ok, just so we're clear on this, I'll extend *my* discrimination to cover
    all makes of German car[1].

Oh and btw, guess what I drive when forced onto four wheels? :-D
Personally, the most scared I've ever felt was about 10 years ago on the
A127 on the way to a job in "Sarf End". Nutcase in a Ford Orion unhappy
about me flashing him to request him to move over, rather than my having
to "undertake" him. He went absolutely garrety and I truly feared for my
life and called the Old Bill.

Since then, I've had maybe a dozen or so heated exchanges with others,
usually over lame driving[2] like failure to indicate, aggressive
lane-changing, once over a car-parking space, once when trying to alert
another driver to their dangerously low rear tyre and once when trying to
alert a driver to the fact that their brake lights were shot.

I've had a couple of /real/ barneys when I've been on the bike, too, once
when some crackhead started to nudge my bike with his car whilst I was
paying for petrol and once when a guy on the M25 deliberately turned in
toward me when I was filtering.

Out of this sorry little lot, maybe half of them were driving German cars.

I guess it's just statistically more likely given the seeming predominance
of German cars on the road.
    <shrug>

I'm really not that discriminatory, really; every fucker is potentially as
bad as the other when I'm at the helm. :)

  10. Oh gawd. I'm crossposting :)

Maybe it's different hemispheres - different behaviours, but I've
found shpxjvgf driving everything from a Rolls Royce to doof doof rice
burners. I haven't noticed it being particularly prevalent amongst the
German car drivers, although I almost had a close encounter with a
de-badged [1] BMW today. Audi drivers seem to be the most sensible
amongst the Germans. Most of the FWs here drive doof doofers or WRXs.
Of course, FW + WRX = bent metal. Darwin was right :)

I saw a FW Ducatti rider a month or so ago.

I had a few words with a Commodore [2] driver a couple of weeks ago.
He was behind me in a RH turn lane waiting for the light to turn
green. The silly fool hooted at me a femtosecond after we got the
green and there were still red light runners coming through the
junction. Naturally, I thought he was warning me that there was
something wrong with my car - maybe a brake light. I got out of the
car and walked back to thank him for his warning and asked what was
wrong. Apparently it was something wrong with my parentage rather than
something wrong with my car. Oh well. Never mind. I thanked him for
    his concern anyway.

And when the lights turned green again, I turned right and floored it
[3] and left the silly sbby for dead :)

Not really. I just thought it would be neat if a mate could let me
have a ride in the cab is all.

Whilst there's *any* ongoing police work towards this case that kind of
action is a very bad idea, one which would probably not do Lady Nina, or
the case for prosecution any favours.

What's the point? Instead of it being over it drags on. I'm just not
very good at vindictive I guess. Plus this whole American influenced
'sue them whatever' thing is part of what's making the 'wrap people in
cotton wool and don't let them take risks attitude' which I hate. His
actions were extreme but why carry on having any link to him? Time to
    move on.

I imagine his missus gave him hell when he managed to get arrested on
his daughter's birthday, I feel really sorry for the kid for having
such an arsehole as a dad.

I haven't heard yet what the police intend to do, but even if it is
just a caution that's fine by me. If I sue him I become part of a
culture that I abhor. Besides I can't see the courts accepting 'unable
to ride a motorbike for a few days' as a serious injury - of course we
    know better <g>

I dunno. Living on the hill above the Northern terminus of the SVR
I can tell you that the Station pub keeps a damn fine cellar.

You will of course have to put up with the regulars though. Ageing,
overweight, badly dressed, socially inept, boring eejiots usually
with personal cleanliness issues. All sharing a minority interest...
    Hmmm, sounds familiar
    ;-)

Why do you assume that he doesn't find it just as easy to hurt his wife in
the same way he attacked you?
Why do you assume his wife would say ANYTHING against him?

Equally, why assume he would.. but still.
Perhaps suing for compensation is possibly daft yes, but taking someone to
court so that they can understand that their actions are WRONG
and will be punished is something completely different IMO.

I don't. I'm sure anyone who can lose it over something that simple
    has used violence before.
Because it was his daughter's birthday and he wasn't there - I used my
'mum' sense. Even if she completely agrees that he was right to attack
me he *will* still have got ear ache over not being there.
But that bit isn't up to me, it is up to police and CPS.
