    Rant mode on.

All I want is one night in a hotel in Brighton so I don't have to
drive there and back in a day.

Brighton hotels want a 2 night stay.

On Friday I have belated birthday meal for madam combined with family
saying goodbye to eldest. So I can't book that as an extra night.

On Monday morning I'm in work so I can't book Sunday as the extra
    night.

What's so sodding difficult about one night stays? I've been told to
ring back on Friday to check availability, I'd rather know that I have
a room. Looks like a travel lodge or similar about 20 miles out is the
    answer.

Someone here explained this recently. They'll only sell one night if
they can't sell two - which obviously brings them more money. As born

I had the same for last weekend, trying to find something in/near
Portsmouth. An event at Goodwood had increased demand and the usual
suspects came up as fully booked if you tried a 1 night stay.

Miraculously, if you changed the tab to 2 nights several options
    materialised. Fuckers.

I eventually got a room by waiting until the Friday. I either got a
cancellation or the hotel, Best Western Royal Beach hotel in Southsea[1],
released some rooms for single night stays.

[1] which seems to be a bit of a dump.

Goodwood Revival? Yeh, I _bet_ it "increased demand"... Rather hugely.

The same is true of hotels in most French ski resorts - they won't
take a weekend booking unless you ring up just a day or two in advance
and the have a spare room not booked for the entire week(Sat-Sat).
Pisses me off big-time, it does.

It would be good to catch up with you if you're in Brighton soon. Email
me removing the _REMOVE_ bit first if you've got time.

No, because I've no difficulty finding hotels, it's ones that will
only take a one night booking that are proving elusive.

I'll just spend Friday morning ringing.

Looks like this is the way forward. However I like being organised
damn it. My inner control freak is screaming.
If that's the one I stayed at for work last year (On the front, looks
down onto the lower road) it wasn't too bad, but I like old creaky
    Victorian buildings with sash windows.

They'd had a fire in the kitchen so the restaurant was shut but they
did a decent bar meal in the back bar that you got to by walking
through a lounge straight out of Fawlty Towers.

I've been working through those - they'll do one night stays - but
    they're full.
    Not yet.

Have you still got my mobile number? The original plan was to see what
time I off loaded eldest and then ring sweller and go for a pint or
    dozen.

However if I'm in a hotel miles away then I'l not be hanging around.

Sorry, I lost that with my old Ericsson T39m, when it muddled up the
    names and numbers randomly.
    Ok.

I had a quick look on hotels.co.uk and it *looks* like they are offering
rooms for a Saturday night stay only. Which is what I assume you were
    after.

Oh, and if you're on Quidco, you can get a little cashback via the site,
    too.

  15. There's a Travelodge in Brighton only about a mile out from the centre:

    http://www.travelodge.co.uk/search_and_book/hotel_overview.php?hotel_id=18

I stayed there once (for 1 night), it's acceptable. Although the car park
charges, they let us park our bikes round the back for free.

    Regards, Ian

I'll have a look tomorrow, I don't think I can face any more trawling
    websites and ringing this evening.
    Noted, ta.

You could adopt my policy, which is to think that if they don't want my
money, then **** them. And to laugh when they whinge about how bad
    business is.

    I recommend it.

I would only I really don't want to drive there and back in a day and
it makes the logistics of seeing M this weekend a lot easier if
there's a double bed in a hotel involved.

Ta, but see above, I've a family party on the Friday, it's the
Saturday I need to book for and lastminute dot com also had the two
night booking thing - apparently it's standard for Brighton at
    weekends.

I'll ring round Friday and sort it. It's probably good that my inner
control freak has to wait. Character building and all that.
