Eeek I've discovered a knowledge gap.

Rummaged under a desk to put a wireless modem/router in and didn't find
ADSL. An NTL Cable Modem. Single Ethernet port and USB.

How does all this work then? I realise it's 10Base2 wiring but I understand
    the protocols are proprietary?

I was rather hoping I could use this zyxel as a simple 4 port hub/wap by
connecting it to the NTL box but ICBW.

Haven't had a chance to examine the PC yet to find out if it uses software
    to dial.

Hog () gurgled happily, sounding much like
    they were saying :
They are the other side of the modem, but not "inside".
Yes, you could by plugging it into one of the hub ports, but bear in mind
    everything'll be inside the firewall.
    Nope.

The modem's permanently connected, and just delivers nice friendly normal
Ethernet to the internal port. You need a wireless router without a modem
    involved at all.

This is what you want :-

(No idea about the vendor - they aren't actually Linksys themselves)

Other Devices Are, of course, Available...

IIRC The cable box unmunges the signal shortly after it's gone from
Fibre to Coax. I think from there you can drop the ethernet connection
it into pretty much any router, or direct into a PC. Upstream NTL do
some kind of filtering on valid MAC addresses via a webpage, so add your
router's MAC address and bob's your sister's brother.
I think you'#ll need a cheap router that can do NAT, rather than just a
    hub, BICBW.
    I don't believe they do.

Thanks, it's a zyxel adsl router/wap/modem so it might do
