Ding! That paragraph underpinned my letter to my MP about the 28 day
debacle. I think that I worded it along the lines of: any legislator who
rubber stamps proposed legislation by the police should be feel so
uncomfortable with the prospect that the proposition should be rejected
out of hand. Or something like that, anyway.

    Well done Willie, anyway.

Speaking of "privacy": can anyone suggest a legitimate reason that the
police officer who assaulted Ian Tomlinson in an apparently unprovoked
attack felt it was reasonable to cover his face with a balaclava?

I rather thought "we" disapproved of "hoodies".

Looking at pics of the G20 thing on several sites, I noticed that well
over 50% of plod in riot gear had their faces covered with a
balaclava. I found it a bit odd.
    Ploddies...

It's only the ones with battons that cover their faces.
Wasn't it hug-a-hoodie day a while back. My, how times change.

Since it's not legal to film plod anymore he was protecting the
tourist who did film the assault from legal action.

    Apparently they're fireproof.

I felt a bit queasy a few years ago watching David Davis interviewed
on Newsnight. Paxo asked him who he thought he was telling the police
they couldn't have the extended detention period they wanted.

``I am a member of Parliament.''

    I cheered for a Tory.

I think I'll just wash my hands now.

  12. Watching it, I was reminded of Blair Peach, but that stupid bugger had
the cheek to go around with a thin skull - I mean really, how daft is
that? Before we know it, the Met will be bleating that the thug with the
stick wasn't to know that a middle-aged bloke shouldn't really be going
around with a dodgy heart, especially in a riot location; just asking for
    it, really.
