  2. everything else looks rusty so it could be. On the other hand it could be
the wax type stuff they fill the bodywork up with to stop rusting.

I think you'd better read the warranty first, it prolly doesn't cover a
bit of surface rust under the car.

You will probably find anti-corrosion warranties only apply to bodywork.

Plus a light dusting of oxidation on heavier metal components actually
    protects them from 'real' rusting.

That's the same as mine, which is three montsh old.
The driveshaft and upper suspension arm (which clamps on the strut bottom)
are rusty. Everything else looks OK, without crawling on the floor to look.

I am tempted with the "ignore it" option TBH - it's a car after all.

    dwb says...
Are you on about the bit at the top, or the bit at the bottom. If it's
the bottom part, that's the driveshaft and it wouldn't matter a jot if
it had a little surface rust. I'd be more concerned about the part in
the top of the pic, that's a presed steel suspension component and is
    showing signs of corrosion.

I think you'll find that the anti-corrosion warranty only covers the
    bodywork anyway.

  8. Is what rust? It looks like surface rust on what I presume to be a drive
shaft, but that's nothing to worry about.

In any case, most of the anti-corrosion warranties usually mean body
    rust to perforation, iirc.

Anway, it's a Renault - so don't worry. Just enjoy the peculiarly
non-arsed shape of the rear end.

So noticed the following on the front wheel struts of my 6 month old
It's "normal" for untreated parts to rust in that way. If you are *that*
worried then Hammerite it after wire brushing off the excess.

Erm, Hammerite on a car that's less than a year old?

I think not, and looking at the pics, there is no 'excess' to speak of.

It doesn't look that bad to me, Dan - if you're that worried, have a nosey
under some of a similar age at your local Renault dealers if you can, and
see if they're the same, and next time it's in for a service, ask the
service department to pass judgement on it, when they have it up in the air.

I doubt you're intending to keep it til it gets to the age where rot tends
to become the norm, rather than the exception, and Renaults aren't, at least
since the late 80s, not known for being rotboxes, so I'd not worry too
much - no main dealer is going to look in that area when you come to trade
    it in.

As in to reduce the problem from becoming worse and to allay the poor boys
fears for buying French crap and expecting it to last like a Landy
    ;-)

Like I said, Renaults don't generally rust... but runaway from anything
    automatic!

Even the manual 'boxes can be a bit iffy in old age compared to a lot of
their contemporaries, as can the electrics.
