My attitude was always that the cave didn't end at the sump so why
    should I stop?

I had a very short spell of trying to push existing sumps further but
decided that it wasn't such a good idea after a couple of minor epics
and after that I stuck to either doing the trade routes or carting
staging bottles into sumps for those braver than me to use.

I'll only go back to cave diving when they open Swildons out into a
massive new master cave after sump 12.

My worst moment was trying to exit from Kingsdale Master Cave through Valley
Entrance after a SRT descent of Swinsto. Since we had been underground,
there had been a downpour, and the passage to VE was filling up. There was
about 6 inches of airspace when I entered the passage. By the time I got to
the end, it was an inch. By the time I had straightened up and lit a fag,
it wasn't there. Luckily, I was last of the party - me, two mates, and a
bunch of (experienced) sixth-formers in the days before Elf 'n' Safety.
    Great trip, though.

My second ever caving trip was Swinsto to VE. I was given a fig 8
descender and told to get on with it and the trip took us about 8
hours because we got lost and then nobody fancied the free climb from
the stream bed up 25' just before the exit duck.

My best ever time was with 2 of us doing a pull through and we did it
in just over an hour and a half. Simpsons was always another story
because I never did it without getting the ropes snagged at least
    once.
