Of course. But it still doesn't look _exactly_ the same as if it was
produced using Word (our main use).

And when you have some people working on stuff in OO and some in MS O
it all ends in a mess.

Simply it's too important for us to risk a bodged document and all our
    clients are using MS Office.

This seems to be the consensus.

The very reason why I still send plain text emails and documents made in
    notepad.

So, send the docs to the client in PDF, they are less likely to try and
    edit it :)

We do for sales material. These are techincal documents that are
reviewed and edited by clients and ourselves.

So, not clients then, but partners.

No, they're clients. We're consultants. We only have one partner and
amusingly[1] their standard is for MS Office as well.

[1] If you know who they are.

If they are clients then they recieve your services
    http://www.answers.com/client&r=67

If they are editing your docs, they must be partners
I'd have to know who you work for 1st

    See definition 3 under "Technology".
We provide consulting services. Part of that is writing documents.
They receive these documents and make changes if they want. We then
change them more to make sure everything still works, etc. Same with
the development work, installation work, everything. They're are most
definitely our clients as they provide nothing to us.
I'm reluctant to mention my employer on Usenet. We're a business
partner of a large blue company.

The customer of a vendor or consultant. The client of an IT department is
    the end user

So they are a user for your IT department ?
Still does not mean they should be editing your docs.
As a client of my butcher, I don't cut the meat and give it back to him
Ahh, go on, I'll conceed that one :)
    HAL ?
