  7. It was somewhere around Barstow, on the edge of the desert, when the
"Using the documents officers traced 11 victims, including one in
Scotland who lost up to £20,000, and a retired 72-year-old American
    businessman who lost $46,500."

Given all the publicity surrounding these scams, htf does anyone still
    fall for them?

"The ease with which e-mail addresses can be obtained and used for
illegal purposes has increased the chances of innocent people being
    subjected to this offence." ^^^^^^^^

They seem to have miss-spelled 'greedy'.

Which raises another question. Should we protect the greedy from
themselves? Greedy and stupid - a winning combo.

TBH I think the bile reserved for these people is out of proportion.
The world doesn't revolve around the internet.
I'm quite interested in how the 419ers justify what they do - aren't
they just the same as the people they entrap?

No, but it does present a mass market for fraudsters. The risk associated
with this particular scam is low, hence it is nice when someone actually
    gets caught.
I don't have a lot of sympathy for those caught out but do we have a duty
to protect stupid, greedy people in the same way we would protect frail old
ladies conned by a bogus plumber?

Does that extend to the victims of the bloke jailed in Wales?

Cause I just see: Nigeriam scammer emails people and tricks them.
419er emails people and tricks them. I can't see a lot of clear blue
    water between the two.
    Oh, of course.

Where do you think I pinched it from? Entertaining series and the

It's true in the classic conartist sense that it's used in the series,

  20. Like people who bought endowment mortgages because the people selling
them said they would make a fortune compared to the poor sods who
    couldn't afford to?
