One very lucky person will thank their stars very shortly.

May I present for your edification, another SOC for sale!

Its my nephews, so I'll let him take over...

Car is a 91 (J) Peugeot 405 GT Diesel Turbo Estate, with power
steering, central locking, electric windows, electric sunroof, roof
bars, tow bar with full electrics, and alloy wheels. It has covered
115k miles (very low for age) with full service history. It had its
timing belt done on 109k miles, new pads and discs in December. It has
12 months MOT, and 2 months tax (end of April).

All for the bargain price of £500 ono

I have to add Ross has had this for something like a year, had very
little trouble with it and its happily done the Milton Keynes <->
Newcastle run without batting an eyelid loads of times.

Inside, outside and under the bonnet condition is nice and clean, no
doors falling off, Bears been no where near it so it still has both
    wing mirrors. Genuine motah guv!

    If I didn't already own a 405 I would snap that up.

The suspension bushes if they haven't been done recently will need
replacing soon, they are surprisingly difficult buggers to remove.

If it's a for sale free for all, I have a brand new full set of leather
seat covers for a 1997/98 Honda Accord in the garage, £300 quid to
    whoever collects.

Had a word with Ross. What the problem is is that with the steering at
full lock sometimes steering wheel vibrates. (kind of fights back)

Sounds to me like the power steering fluid is low, but apparently its
    not. Loose drive belt?

  10. Semi-seized CV joint. Be alright for another 20,000 miles or until
    Bear pays the money across.

If the bushes are done in, yes to the vibrations could also be tie rod
    ends etc.

Other than that they are very solid reliable motors (taxis), the post
RE: the power steering is common, the drive belt takes a half hour to
do. I did the timing belt at the weekend and it took 2 hours in total
(which isn't bad for a first attempt).
The 405 is a very good motor, galvanised body an all that, they are also
very nice to drive, the 8 valve ones have a lot of grunt for a 2L.
My 405 will top 135 it is the 2.0l GTX tho'.

I find that a mini tabletop vice was useful to clamp the drive shaft to
the lower wishbone, so you could knock off the CV joint with a soft
mallet. It was for my Audi Coupe GT. :)

  13. A CV from the scrappy? I can see the point of buying lots of things
from scrap-yards - not CV joints though. I just fitted two new ones on
my Rangie and they were only 25 quid each.

Oh by the way Bear, I saw those patches of oil on the driveway, they're
on the half I always park me Volvo, and as I've just noticed that
*thats* power steering reservoir was nearly empty day before yesterday
and I filled it up, I suspect I put too much in and its spitting the
excess out (I hope so anyway) or thats sprung a leak. Bloody damn cars!!

Either way the Peugeots never been parked near the door.
