    That's a tricky one. I'd say rap as a genre is shite, & Eminem's a
shit singer/musician, but he's not a shit rapper. Putting my personal
taste aside, he's been very influential in his field, is highly
critically acclaimed & has won numerous awards. Which surely proves
he's very good at what he does, & is therefore not shit (at what he
    does).

Or to put it another way, he's both shit & not shit depending on which
    field you judge him in.

Whilst I'm no big fan of rap music, if you listen to Eminem's lyrics
you'll discover that Mr Mathers is a very talented wordsmith.

Bloke tells a good story, it's just a pity that it is submerged in
    (c)rap.

Or it *would* be, if one didn't need subtitles for most of it.

you must be out of your tiny little mind.

It's just so unpleasant to hear, I can't imagine ever listening to the
lyrics. Occasionally words like **** and Bitch are impossible to
filter out if someones's playing it in a bar or summat, but the rest
of it would require active listening <shudder>.

Even some of my Cloggy friends didn't need subs for it. Are you hard of
    hearing?

I'd not come across this one so it's downloading now. I'll sue you for
    4.78 GCreds if it's crap.

I found some of the dialogue difficult to follow, usually due to just
plain mumbling but also due to some of the accents.

The former is a common complaint of mine, so I suspect it's just that
30 years of motorcycling and rock concerts has damaged my hearing
    beyond repair.

It is just you. I really struggle with strong accents[1], especially an
Indian developer we employed a couple of years ago who I could only
talk to through MSN as I couldn't understand a bloody word he said, but
I had no problems at all with The Wire.

[1] Scottish, Welsh, Irish & whatever the hell it is the Florida
neanderthals on Axemen speak are particularly bad.

    Aye. Gripped, I was.
There was a bit of a 'learning curve', and that complaint is not
incommon. By the third episode I was well into the patois - clear
amplification and decent speakers help, mind.
Mine is a bit fogged by similar abuse: choosing to perch right on top
of gig speakers, then working in the space between speakers and barrier
for several years didn't help, I suppose.
I struggle with strong accents when the speaker is conscious they
aren't speaking their first language and tend to gabble. I play the
thicko then, and get them to slow down for me. That has worked for me
well, particularly in work situations where nodding and smiling wasn't
    a solution.
When the swamp men get going, it is entirely gibberish. What a strange
accent, though. I was clear on the "We going to use explosives?"
"Hell, yeah, we going to blow stuff up!" <high fives> conversation
though, which led directly to possibly the funniest unscripted
    television I've ever seen.

I bought it on DVD, coming off the back of The Wire and Band Of
Brothers etc: it was rubbish in comparison. IMHO, natch.

I work with an Indian chap who has a very strong accent. I can
understand the accent no problem, but even if he spoke using RP, it
    would still be mainly gibberish.
