You don't need a forecourt to be classed as a trader per se.

IIRC, DVLA and the IR don't work on that basis - if you come to their
attention, I believe they work on a 'X amount of vehicles sold in a
    set period equates to trading'.

Whatever, the OPs comment regarding the transaction which led to them
being able to offer up such a fine piece of motoring history to the
masses is rather telling in respect of this, no?

Whilst in absolute terms he's in breach of the group charter (1), at
least the tat TOG tends to offload is by enlarge 'on topic'.

    (1) Not that anyone really takes any notice of that.

  4. So it is a matter of on topic or not? I look forward to your reaction the
next time BCB prosthelytise on the benefits of public transport.

Not specifically... but if people are going to mull over the matter of
someone posting multiple adverts in here, then it has to be said that
TOG, (and Lozzo for that matter), are posting ads which by enlarge are
    on-topic.

That, and they post plenty of non-ad related drivel too, whereas I
suspect the percentage of total posts submitted to the group by Mr
Crowder which happen to be for SOCs is considerably higher.
Were this a clear cut question solely question the matter of 'off
topic', you may have a point.
    Feral, is it?

IIRC, he had a bereavement in the family, and punted some stuff out
sorting out the estate of a dead relative,

So I think both you and Steve should cut the bloke a little slack ..

  8. I seem to remember that you've also bought and sold a few motors here.

Would consider Nige a trader? He's sold more bikes than most traders.

Read what I wrote again - I'm not picking holes in him, more I'm
outlining why it could assumed he's a trader.

    And had flack for it.
    As has Nige.

In fact, it's even become a saying.... we now don't punt stuff out on
    eBay, we 'Nige' it out.

    In the past, yes?

What of it - I used to get a bike, usually love it initially, then get
bored with it and decide I wanted something else.

To do this, I needed to sell it to pay for the next one.

This was mostly down to my having a short attention span, something
which has improved in the last few years.
    Would you?

Or did you mean to ask 'Would YOU consider Nige a trader?'

If the latter, no I wouldn't - he's appears to be someone like me who,
at least in the past, gets bored with something pretty quickly and
    decides to move on.
What you and I would consider to be traders is quite possibly
different to the interpretation DVLA and the IR would have at face
    value.

The difference is we know Nige isn't... but personally I'd suggest
Alan Crowder was given he's not exactly waxing lyrically in here every
five minutes about the virtues of whatever it is he tends to buy and
    sell four wheeled wise.

Whatever... it's not like this place isn't full of hypocrisy at times
    - the way Vass was treated when he wanted to offload his R1 by some
who then have lambasted SteveH for raising this particular point is as
good an example as any of that.

He's either had a lot of bereavements or the person who passed away
owned a forecourt full of shite old motors he's been gradually getting
round to offloading over the last five years or so.

  16. It is a shame Des is off being busy pointlessly digging fall out shelters
or he could sum that sentiment up with a single word

I may well have done, but...

Could it be this very car?

    http://groups.google.com/group/uk.rec.motorcycles/msg/b78d2d9aa91b0ca6?h
    l=en

Now, he may be a decent bloke, but he's at least a part time car trader
using UKRM (amongst other groups - thames-valley / southwest and
uk.adverts.cars) to carry out his business - which is, at the very
least, to be frowned upon, isn't it?

  19. Glass houses and stones etc.
I don't think you're in any position to pick up on typos[1]

Right. So that means that Both Nige, and you and SteveH and Alan C, and
possibly a whole bunch of other people may, or may not be traders
(three out of the last 6 vehicles I bought were directly from UKRMers),
depending on who's opinion you ask. Helpful that.
    Such is the world.
I don't recall the situation in question, but I'm fairly sure it's not
    really relevant.
